Evaluation Question 2.

How effective is the combination of your main product and the ancillary texts?

Both our music video and our print media work together effectively as a combination. We used the same colour scheme in both pieces of work. In particular we used a lot of grey throughout both pieces of work to represent a feeling of loss and sadness. We kept this use of grey in our video, our poster and our cd case in order to ultimately give all of them a combined feeling of sadness and loss. Also our colour scheme in both is very dark and shady which not only is sticking to the convention of rock bands but also to the feelings portrayed in the song itself. We decided that having a dark colour scheme was not only sticking to the lyrics but also portraying the way in which we wanted the band to be perceived as a lot of their songs have a deep, emotional undertone. So ultimately as a result of this we decided to have a dark colour scheme as it is in fitting with the style of the band. We also used the same actors for both the music video and the print media. In particular we used myself and Alistair for the main part of the print media, as we thought that the drummer and the vocalist were two of the key roles within the band. However inside our cd case we included a limited edition booklet which contained photos of all of the actors in it. We did this in order to clearly link both pieces of work together as it is essential that a bands cd case contains photos of every member of the band. We did not just include a photo of all of the actors but instead we also included a brief discussion with each of them summarising their experience with the project itself which furthermore combines the main project and the print media. We also decided to include one of the original members of the band, Joshua Frampton, inside of the booklet. Josh had written us a paragraph talking about his time and experiences of being in the band which we summarised over a current photo of him. This furthermore linked both pieces of work together as Josh was the vocalist of Against the Tide who actually wrote the song which we used in our media video. So therefore including both his song and him in both pieces of work was essential. So overall to a large extent we effectively combined both our main product and the ancillary texts as both the music video and the print media work effectively with one another.
